PERI SHELTERS - ensuring long-term protection and reliability

PERI SHELTERS will often house control and instrumentation equipment that is vital to the continued operation of a plant, and avoiding downtime is a priority. INTERTEC has developed unique protection mechanisms to help ensure long term reliability:

Ultra-reliable cooling (and/or heating). High temperatures reduce the life expectancy of electronics. Cooling is usually essential, and INTERTEC has developed probably the most advanced and reliable shelter cooling technology available today to protect field-based instrumentation in remote and harsh environments. This includes patented passive cooling - a technique requiring no moving parts and no electricity. For extended reliability, INTERTEC offers hybrid cooling systems using combinations of passive and active cooling for fault tolerance. Such passive thermal storage systems can also be designed to support shelter heating - for shelters in climates requiring protection against extremes of both cold and heat.

Corrosion resistance. GRP does not rust or degrade in any meaningful way. INTERTEC's composite-GRP construction techniques provide long-lifecycle solutions for field instrumentation. Key to this is the ease with which durable GRP sheets can be fabricated with other material layers to meet multiple environmental protection requirements, as well as highly insulated and stable internal operating environments for sensitive electronics.

Extended UV protection. Surface degradation is prevented by a UV-resistant gel-coat applied to the GRP surfaces. INTERTEC employs a unique gel-coat that matches the properties of GRP. The coating and panel form a chemical bond; after curing the coating provides an extremely durable, but flexible, surface finish with a high resistance to weathering and hydrolysis loads. It is much more resistant to UV than plastic materials, such as the acrylic paints used by many metal cabinet manufacturers.

Explosion proof. INTERTEC's GRP cabinets and shelters for pressurised applications (Ex p) have panel edges with chemically bonded half-lap joints providing excellent mechanical strength without the need for any penetrative fittings. The bonding process creates a closed cell foam that expands as it sets to form an impermeable, gas-tight seal. Combined with features such as airlocks, this can enable INTERTEC shelters to reduce pressurising air/gas supply requirements substantially.

Antistatic. INTERTEC offers the most advanced antistatic protection on the market for field enclosures. The use of an additive with single-walled carbon nanotubes - which are extremely small in diameter - means protected shelters and cabinets can be coloured in almost any tint - including white for optimal UV resistance.

Other protection. Other protection properties can be added to suit different application environments, including resistance to fire, blast or seismic disturbance.
