In refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants in particular, there are often instrumentation and control systems for measuring and analysis purposes in hazardous areas which are operated in large walk-in shelters. These analysis equipment rooms are designed for the safe operation of facilities with process analyzers and must be closed, well ventilated and pressurized to ensure the most consistent temperature conditions possible. This ensures that measurements are not compromised, and plant operators can work safely.

It is mainly used to reduce heat loss and to stabilize the room temperature in hazardous analyzer rooms of zone 1 and 2. All electrical control components of the HVAC system are installed in an Ex d housing or, in case of cooling of an Ex p cabinet, can also be installed in the explosion-proof interior of the cabinet.
